Antispam: entrust your emails to a secure system

Spam and   e-mail phishing still represent a potential danger today. Email client filters  , which automatically flag messages that appear unwanted, are not an insurmountable barrier.

The spam protection features are implemented by those who manage the mail service, who try to protect the mailbox from the entry of messages that could pose a threat.

Shellrent's Hosting Mail service, which allows you to create five custom 1GB mailboxes, comes with Antivirus and Antispam protection.

Email management

Our infrastructure for managing inbound and outbound mail is based on the free architecture of Linux operating systems that allow us to enjoy ample autonomy, customization and agility.

On every email that "knocks" on the door of the operating servers in the management of incoming mail, checks are carried  out on several levels , in order to allow only the entry of reliable communications, avoiding that these are submerged by "junk" emails. Even before an email is subject to the actual spam filter screening, a check is made on:

  • the domain of the sender's email , to check if it is registered and active;
  • the existence of the recipient's mailbox;
  • the reverse DNS of the IP of the server  from which it sends the sender: each “clean” IP has its own reverse (rDNS), that is a hostname to which it responds, and if this is not present, the IP is probably malicious.
  • the domain in blacklist or the server with IP in blacklist : if the sender sends from a server with IP in blacklist, the communications sent by the same are hardly reliable.

How “spammy” is your email?

The  Shellrent spam filter , for example, is determined by the email rating level set at the discretion of users directly from the Manager Control Panel:

  • Poor: some spam messages may not be detected, and therefore reach the inbox:
  • Optimal: it is the recommended level, where the detection parameters are adjusted based on the history of spam detections, the risk of false positives is minimal.
  • High: the level of filtering is high but, at the same time, the risk of not receiving non-spam messages is high.

If you want to take a  test to understand how “spammy” your communications are, you can use the Mail-Tester tool . How does it work? Just send an email from your inbox to the address specified on the home page and ask for the verification of the mail, with a score that can be between 0 and 10. In this case, the higher the evaluation, the less spammy the your mail.

For even faster verification, however, we recommend using the  lightweight JSON API,  provided free of charge by  Postmark . This tool immediately checks whether the message you wish to send can be considered spam, by directly entering the text in the appropriate box.

How to increase the delivery rating?

Email deliverability is the ability to successfully deliver messages to the recipient's inbox without being marked as spam. To increase the delivery rating, and prevent communications from ending up in spam, Shellrent offers the Mail Protection service. This solution reduces the risk of messages being tagged as spam, offering the domain to which the mailbox is connected greater authority also thanks to the authentication protocols that verify the sender's trustworthiness and the legitimacy of the communication.
